ChannelMute Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026

In short

ChannelMute does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. It has no servers, accounts, analytics, or ads. Everything it does happens inside your own browser, and the list of channels you block stays on your device.

Who we are

ChannelMute is a browser extension published by lavaextensions ("we", "us"). You can reach us at lava.extensions@gmail.com.

What ChannelMute handles, and where

ChannelMute handles the following information, all on your device:

1. Your blocklist. The channel identifiers (for example @somechannel, or a channel ID) that you choose to block. This is saved in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) so your blocks persist between sessions.

2. Your settings. Two on/off preferences: whether blocking is enabled, and whether to also hide comments from blocked channels. These are saved in the same local storage.

3. Links on YouTube pages you view. To decide which videos and comments to hide, the extension reads the channel links that are already present on the YouTube pages you open. This happens in your browser, in real time, and is used only to compare against your blocklist. ChannelMute does not record, store, or transmit what you watch, search for, or browse, and it keeps no history.

What we do not do

Exporting and importing your list

If you click Export list, ChannelMute saves a file containing your blocklist to your own device. We never receive this file. If you click Import list, the extension reads only the file you select, and only to add its channel identifiers to your local blocklist.

Permissions and why they are needed

Permission Why
storage Saves your blocklist and settings on your device.
contextMenus Adds the "Block this channel" item to the right-click menu on channel links.
Access to https://www.youtube.com/* Lets the extension read channel links on YouTube pages and hide blocked videos and comments. ChannelMute has no access to any other website.

Retention and deletion

Your data stays on your device until you remove it. You can unblock any channel from the extension popup at any time. Uninstalling ChannelMute removes its stored data from your browser. Because we do not hold any of your data, we have nothing to delete, correct, or export on our side.

Third parties

ChannelMute runs on YouTube, which is operated by Google. Your use of YouTube is governed by YouTube's and Google's own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control. ChannelMute is an independent extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of Google LLC.

Chrome Web Store User Data Policy

ChannelMute's handling of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the extension's single purpose: hiding videos and comments from channels you choose to block.

Children's privacy

ChannelMute is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how ChannelMute handles data, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above, and, where the change is material, note it in the extension's store listing or release notes.
